Nolwenn Kerzreho: The ”Green” UX: Revisiting content design technique

To better understand and reduce the carbon footprint of our content, we first need to get a clear picture of how people—and increasingly, machines (hello AI!)—are using it. At the heart of this is knowing what our audiences truly need and how well our content is performing. When information is easy and quick to find, it not only boosts your “green” metrics but also creates a smoother, more enjoyable experience for your users.

Creating minimalistic content is a great start: focusing on strong findability, clear user-focused tasks, and resilience against errors. But to really make our content both greener and more user-friendly, we as content professionals need to go a step further. By bringing in principles of instructional design, we can craft content that’s not just efficient, but genuinely helpful, thoughtful, and sustainable.
